A large square lacquered Tray with a richly mottled surface and rounded corners, suited for use as a kotatsu top board or decorative tabletop accent.
This substantial square tray features a reddish-brown and black mottled lacquered face with scattered reflective flecks that animate the surface in the light. The form is broad and flat with softly rounded corners and a raised perimeter edge, giving it the look and function of a top board designed to rest securely on a base. The reverse is finished in plain black, while the edge continues the warm reddish-brown tone around the sides. Its clean, simple construction and generous scale make it well suited as a vintage kotatsu top board or as a standalone decorative board for display.
Today this vintage Japanese board translates beautifully into contemporary interiors. Use it atop a low table base, lean it upright as a bold decorative accent, or incorporate it into a layered display where its lacquered surface adds warmth and depth. Its square format and striking finish make it especially appealing in Japandi, wabi-sabi, or eclectic interiors that favor natural materials and time-softened character.
A striking vintage Japanese board that brings bold lacquered surface texture and practical versatility into the modern home.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
