Vintage Japanese Haribako Sewing Chest, Mid Showa 1946-1965 | SKU: 26J-0780

A compact Japanese sewing chest with a lift-top tray compartment and graduated drawers, finished in a warm figured wood veneer.

This vintage Japanese haribako is a practical and attractive sewing chest dating to the Mid Showa period. The front is arranged with five drawers in an asymmetric layout, each fitted with a simple metal pull, while the top lifts open to reveal a shallow compartment divided for organizing sewing tools and small supplies. Rounded upper corners soften the silhouette, and the continuous figured veneer gives the piece a rich amber-brown presence from front to sides and back.

Originally made for needlework storage, this piece still lends itself beautifully to keeping thread, notions, scissors, patterns, and other handwork essentials neatly sorted. It can also serve on a craft table, studio shelf, or dresser for organizing small household items while adding a distinctly vintage Japanese character to the room. Compact in scale yet visually striking, it is both useful and decorative.

A handsome and functional piece of vintage Japanese craftsmanship for sewing supplies, craft tools, or everyday organization.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage pieces that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
