A tsuridoro is a traditional Japanese hanging lantern, suspended by chain from a garden gate, veranda beam, or interior alcove to cast a warm, patterned glow through its openwork side panels. This handsome example from the mid-Showa period is cast in dark patinated metal -- consistent with the bronze indicated in trusted records -- and embodies the quiet drama of vintage Japanese craft. The pagoda-style roof is rendered with exceptional surface detail, mimicking the bundled texture of thatched reed or bark shingles, and sweeps upward at each corner with classic upswept eaves.
