Japanese Tansu Style Vanity Chest Custom-Order Reference

Japanese tansu Style Vanity Chest

This custom-order reference example is shown for inspiration and documentation and is not available for purchase. Designed in a Japanese tansu style, this vanity chest combines a long cabinet form with practical drawer storage and a clear finish over ash wood.

Overview

Tansu is a Japanese term commonly used for cabinetry and chests designed for organized household storage. In this vanity chest format, the elongated casework provides a broad top surface and multiple storage compartments suited to dressing or bath-area use. The documented ash wood construction and clear finish emphasize the grain, while the photographed hardware and paneled fronts reinforce the tansu-inspired character.

Design Details

This reference piece features a substantial horizontal form with several drawers fitted with traditional-style pulls, along with central cabinet doors that contribute to its balanced appearance. The sides are finished with recessed panel styling, and the dark top creates a strong visual contrast with the lighter wood body. Together, these elements give the piece the orderly, architectural presence associated with tansu-style cabinetry.
