Japanese Tansu Style Vanity Chest Custom-Order Reference

Japanese Tansu Style Vanity Chest

This custom-order reference piece is shown for inspiration and is not available for purchase. Designed as a vanity chest in a Japanese tansu style, it combines a broad cabinet form with multiple drawers and sliding-door storage in a clean, architectural layout.

Design Overview

The documented specifications identify this piece as a Japanese Tansu Style Vanity Chest measuring 48"W x 22"D x 33"H, made of ash with a clear finish. In the photographs, the chest presents a balanced arrangement of storage compartments, including stacked drawers, wider lower drawers, and sliding panels that echo traditional tansu-inspired organization in a vanity format.

Tansu is a Japanese term commonly used for cabinetry and chests designed around practical storage. Here, that influence is expressed through the orderly drawer layout, framed panel construction, and compact cabinet proportions adapted for bathroom or dressing-room use.

Visible Features

The pictured example shows a rectangular vanity chest with a dark countertop, a coordinating framed mirror above, and black drawer pulls that stand out against the light wood. The front includes narrow upper drawers, two wider lower drawers, and sliding-door compartments, giving the piece a structured, functional appearance suited to everyday storage.

The ash grain remains visible throughout the exterior, and the clear finish allows the natural character of the wood to remain the focus. Side panels and leg-and-frame elements reinforce the crisp, linear silhouette associated with tansu-inspired case furniture.
