Japanese Tansu Style Vanity Chest Custom-Order Reference

Japanese Tansu Style Vanity Chest

This custom-order reference example is shown for inspiration and is not available for purchase.

Overview

This Japanese tansu style vanity chest is a compact custom-order example with documented dimensions of 25”W x 18”D x 31”H. The supplied specifications identify ash wood with a teak finish, while the pictured design shows a tansu-inspired cabinet form with drawers, paneled sliding-style fronts, and dark accent hardware that gives the piece its distinctive character.

In plain English, tansu refers to traditional Japanese chest and cabinet forms known for practical storage and strong visual rhythm from drawers, pulls, and framing details. Here, that influence is expressed in a vanity-size cabinet format suited to a sink-top installation.

Design Details

The front presents a balanced arrangement with upper and lower drawers, a central compartment with slatted sliding-style doors, and contrasting dark trim at the edges and hardware points. The top is shown with a vessel sink and tall faucet, reinforcing the vanity function referenced in the item name. Side-mounted hardware visible in the photos adds utility while maintaining the chest-like appearance.
