Japanese Style Media Chest Custom-Order Reference
This pictured piece is a custom-order example kept for reference and inspiration and is not available for purchase.
Overview
This Japanese style media chest was documented for a custom project with a 46”W x 22”D x 24”H footprint, fir construction, and a light teak finish. The design combines a broad top sized for media use with sliding front panels in a Japanese-inspired lattice pattern, giving the piece the clean, architectural look often associated with tansu-influenced cabinetry.
The front is arranged with two sliding doors, allowing the cabinet to maintain a low horizontal profile suited to television and media placement. The gridded panel treatment softens the cabinet’s larger scale and adds a shoji-inspired visual rhythm while keeping the overall form simple and practical.
Design Details
This reference example shows a substantial overhanging top, straight framed sides, and recessed pulls integrated into the sliding door layout. Its proportions make it suitable as a media chest, with enclosed storage below and a wide top surface above. The Japanese style here refers to the cabinet’s restrained lines and sliding lattice-door presentation rather than to a documented antique period or historical attribution.
