Japanese Tansu Style Wardrobe
This custom-order reference example shows a Japanese tansu style wardrobe with a warm teak finish on fir. The pictured piece is presented here for inspiration and documentation and is not available for purchase.
Its tall case form combines upper and lower sliding-door compartments with a row of drawers at the base, creating a practical wardrobe layout with the clean, architectural look associated with tansu-inspired cabinetry. In plain English, tansu refers to traditional Japanese storage furniture, and this design adapts that visual language to a full-size wardrobe format.
Design Details
The facade features rectilinear framing, recessed sliding-door pulls, and lattice-style panel accents across the upper doors and the upper rails of the main lower doors. A bank of small drawers along the bottom adds compact storage below the larger wardrobe compartments. The overall composition gives the piece a balanced, built-in appearance while keeping access convenient in a narrow room or hallway setting.
The documented material is fir, finished in teak tone, which gives the surface a warm brown color while allowing the straightforward cabinet form and panel layout to remain the focus.
