Japanese Tansu Style Wardrobe

This custom-order reference example shows a Japanese tansu style wardrobe in ash wood with a teak finish. The pictured piece is presented for inspiration and documentation and is not available for purchase.

A tansu is a traditional Japanese storage cabinet form. In this wardrobe-style interpretation, the upper section is arranged for hanging garments, while the lower section provides drawer storage for folded clothing and household items.

Design Details

This piece combines two sliding upper doors with a bank of six lower drawers. The upper doors feature an open lattice-style pattern above solid lower panels, giving the cabinet a distinctive tansu-inspired appearance while keeping the overall form practical for modern storage. The interior view shows a hanging rod fitted across the wardrobe compartment.

The drawer section is arranged in two vertical columns of three drawers, each fitted with dark pull hardware that contrasts with the warm wood grain. The straightforward rectilinear case, projecting top, and balanced storage layout reinforce the cabinet's clean, functional design.
