Japanese Tansu Style Console Chest
This custom-order reference example is a Japanese tansu style console chest with a clear finish in ash wood. The pictured piece is shown here for inspiration and documentation only and is not available for purchase.
Designed as a low console cabinet, this piece combines the broad proportions of a chest with the practical surface area of a console. In plain English, tansu refers to traditional Japanese cabinetry and storage furniture; here, that influence is expressed through the clean rectilinear form, low stance, and paneled sliding-door appearance.
Design Details
The front presents three framed door panels with Japanese-inspired latticework and simple round pulls. The top offers a long, usable display surface for ceramics, plants, or other decorative objects, while the cabinet interior provides concealed storage. The clear finish keeps the ash wood visually light and highlights its natural character.
