Vintage Japanese Cha Tansu Tea Chest, Mid Showa (1946-1965) | SKU: 26J-C030
A compact Japanese tea chest with textured glass sliding doors, an upper sliding compartment, open shelving, and lower drawers in a warm dark wood tone.
This vintage Japanese cha tansu dates to the Mid Showa period (1946-1965) and offers the balanced, practical layout associated with tea-storage cabinetry. The case is arranged with a small upper sliding-door compartment at left, an open shelf at upper right, a pair of central sliding doors fitted with textured glass panels, and a lower bank of drawers with simple metal pulls. Inside, the open section includes a small shelf, creating useful space for organizing tea wares, cups, or other household items. The overall form is compact and upright, with a flat top, clean rectilinear lines, and a recessed base that gives the chest a steady, grounded presence.
In today's home, this cha tansu works beautifully as a small display-and-storage cabinet in a dining area, kitchen corner, living room, or entryway. The textured glass softens the view of contents while still adding visual depth, and the combination of shelves and drawers makes it especially versatile for ceramics, linens, stationery, or curated everyday objects. Its dark wood surface and understated hardware pair naturally with Japandi, wabi-sabi, and mid-century inspired interiors.
