Vintage Japanese Cha Tansu Tea Chest with Sliding Doors, Mid Showa 1946-1965 | SKU: 26J-0292

A characterful mid-century Japanese tea chest with open upper shelving and brocade-trimmed sliding doors below.

This vintage Japanese cha tansu presents a clean, low profile with a rectangular top, an open upper shelf area, and a lower storage section fitted with two sliding doors. The frame has a deep reddish-brown finish, and the lower door fronts are bordered with green-and-gold patterned textile trim around cream-colored center panels. Small round pulls complete the doors, while the broad top and middle shelf surfaces offer practical display and serving space. The overall form is simple, functional, and well suited to the restrained elegance associated with mid-Showa household furnishings.

Traditionally inspired and highly adaptable, this piece works beautifully today as a compact tea chest, low cabinet, or display shelf in a living room, dining area, or entryway. The open upper section can hold teaware, small ceramics, books, or seasonal objects, while the enclosed lower compartment keeps smaller household items tucked away. Its horizontal silhouette and understated decorative details pair easily with both traditional Japanese interiors and modern Japandi-style spaces.

A versatile and appealing Japanese tea chest that brings practical storage and quiet vintage character to a wide range of interiors.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage pieces that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
