Vintage Japanese Kaba-zaiku Ko Bako, Late Showa 1966-1989 | SKU: 26J-0405
A compact vintage Japanese ko bako with a rich bark-clad surface, floral decoration, and black ring-pull fittings.
This small Japanese ko bako is finished in the warm, variegated look associated with kaba-zaiku, the traditional cherry-bark craft of Akita. The front and sides show a distinctive striped and mottled bark surface in deep reddish brown, while the face is ornamented with floral motifs and fine trailing stems accented by pale oval centers. Two black metal ring pulls on circular backplates give the piece a balanced, symmetrical appearance and add a handsome contrast to the glossy surface. Compact in scale yet visually detailed, it is an appealing example of late Showa decorative craftsmanship.
At under nine inches wide, this ko bako is easy to place on a desk, shelf, vanity, or bedside table. It works well for small personal items such as jewelry, stationery, sewing notions, keepsakes, or other small accessories that benefit from a compact tabletop organizer. Its warm bark-toned finish and delicate floral decoration suit interiors ranging from traditional Japanese-inspired spaces to eclectic vintage collections.
