Vintage Japanese Shiteki Chaire Set of Four in Tomobako, Late Showa 1966-1989 | SKU: 26J-0682-1
A charming boxed set of four ceramic tea utensils in distinct traditional forms used in the Japanese tea ceremony.
This vintage Japanese set includes four small ceramic vessels presented together in a wooden tomobako and identified on the box as 四滴茶入. The group represents the classic four-form shiteki chaire set used in tea practice: 水滴(すいてき), 油滴(ゆてき), 手瓶(てがめ), and 弦付(つるつき). Each piece is individually shaped and glazed, with open mouths and compact rounded bodies that emphasize their sculptural character as well as their functional role within chanoyu utensils.
The set shows an appealing variety of finishes and silhouettes: a glossy black handled vessel with fitted lid; a cream-white piece with hand-painted circular banding and a small spout; an olive-green handled form with a painted plant motif; and a pale beige vessel with an upright arched handle. Displayed together, the four create a refined study in form, proportion, and glaze variation. The original wooden tomobako adds presence for collectors of tea ceremony objects, Japanese studio ceramics, and boxed utensil sets.
