Vintage Japanese Shiteki Chaire Porcelain Tea Ceremony Set of Four, Late Showa (1966-1989) | SKU: 26J-0682-2
A vintage Japanese set of four porcelain tea ceremony vessels in coordinated amber and dark brown glaze, presented with a signed wooden tomobako.
This handcrafted set is a shiteki chaire (四滴茶入), a traditional grouping of four small tea utensils used in Japanese tea ceremony. The set includes the four classic forms: 水滴(すいてき), 油滴(ゆてき), 手瓶(てがめ), and 弦付(つるつき). Each piece has a rounded body and narrow mouth, with varied handle configurations that distinguish the forms within the set. The glaze is especially striking, with a deep glossy brown ground accented by flowing amber and cream drip effects around the shoulder. One vessel retains a small pale lid, while the others are open at the mouth. The accompanying wooden storage box bears brushed calligraphy consistent with the set's tea-ceremony identity.
Grouped together, these four miniature vessels create a sculptural display with strong wabi-sabi appeal. Their varied silhouettes -- including side loops and a tall overhead handle -- give the set visual rhythm on a shelf, in a tea room, or in a tokonoma-inspired interior. For collectors of chado utensils, vintage Japanese ceramics, or thoughtfully curated small objects, this set offers both cultural context and decorative presence.
