This pictured piece is a custom-order reference example and is not available for purchase.
This custom-order Japanese kadan step chest combines two sections in a stepped form that provides both storage and display surfaces. In plain English, a kadan step chest is a stair-step style cabinet arrangement, here documented in a two-section format with a broad lower case, an upper cabinet section, and open shelving integrated into the stepped silhouette.
The documented measurements are 60”W x 13”D x 54”H. The manually supplied material is kiri, finished in a mahogany tone. The photographs show a rich reddish-brown surface, contrasting dark corner hardware, lower drawers with ring pulls, sliding-door storage at the center, and open shelves at both the upper and lower sections.
This reference example presents a clean, architectural stepped profile. The lower section includes three drawers across the base, while the middle cabinet area is fitted with sliding doors. Above and below, open shelf spaces create areas for display or everyday access. Dark metal corner fittings and simple pulls emphasize the geometric lines of the piece.
The two-section construction makes the form especially useful where a step chest is desired as both storage furniture and a strong visual element along a wall. Its shallow documented depth of 13 inches supports that compact, space-conscious profile.
