This antique Japanese haribako is a small personal sewing box stand designed for storing needles, thread, cloth notions, and other household sewing tools. The form combines a rectangular lower case fitted with four drawers and a tall side post supporting a small upper box with a hinged lid and tiny drawer beneath. The lower section features two small top drawers with turned wooden pulls, above two deeper drawers fitted with curved metal bail handles. The upper box adds another compact storage area for finer sewing accessories. The wood has a deep brown patina with visible grain throughout, while the drawer interiors show a lighter natural wood tone that highlights its practical, hand-crafted construction.

In today's home, this piece works beautifully as a sewing or mending box, but it can also serve as a distinctive desk organizer for stationery, jewelry, tea accessories, or other small keepsakes.
