Antique Japanese Mizuya Glass Kitchen Chest, Two-Section | Taisho (1912-1926) | SKU: 26M-E021

A generous two-section kitchen chest with glass-front storage, open work space, and drawers below -- practical antique cabinetry with clean lines and warm presence.

A mizuya is a traditional Japanese kitchen chest made for the orderly storage of tableware, serving pieces, and household essentials. This antique example is built in two stacked sections, with large sliding glass doors on the upper cabinet, a lower section with additional glass-front storage to one side, and a broad open compartment that creates a useful work or serving area. Along the base runs a row of drawers fitted with dark metal ring pulls, adding smaller enclosed storage below. The overall form is straightforward and functional, with a warm-toned wood surface and simple framing that suit both traditional and modern interiors.

Today this substantial piece works beautifully as a kitchen chest, dining room storage cabinet, or statement display piece for ceramics and everyday wares. The upper shelves are well suited to dishes, glassware, or collections, while the lower open bay offers room for larger serving items, baskets, or appliances. Its balanced two-section construction and restrained design give it the versatility to anchor a Japandi, wabi-sabi, or rustic-modern space while still serving as hardworking storage furniture.

A handsome and highly usable Japanese antique that brings together display, storage, and everyday function in one impressive cabinet.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
