Vintage Japanese Ceramic Vase Pair with Ume Plum Blossom Decoration and Tomobako, Mid Showa 1946-1965 | SKU: 26M-882-2
A matched pair of hand-painted ceramic vases with plum blossom motif, preserved with their original wood presentation box.
This charming pair of vintage Japanese ceramic vases dates to the Mid Showa period and offers a warm, rustic studio pottery presence. Each vessel is formed with a rounded body and a short, gently flared neck, finished in a soft milky white and gray glaze with subtle tonal variation. Over the surface, hand-painted branches with red ume (plum blossom) blooms and small green and gold accents create an expressive seasonal design associated in Japan with perseverance and the arrival of spring. The exposed reddish clay foot rings and the slight variation between the two forms add to their handcrafted character, while the accompanying tomobako-style wood box lends a pleasing sense of presentation.
In a modern home, this vase pair works beautifully as a decorative accent on a shelf, sideboard, or entryway console. Their compact scale makes them especially suited to small ikebana-style arrangements, a few seasonal stems, or simple display on their own beside the original box. The pair also fits naturally into Japandi, wabi-sabi, and collected vintage interiors where handmade ceramics bring softness and quiet visual texture.
