This compact, rounded vessel is an outstanding example of the kohiki style -- a technique in which a thick, chalky white slip is brushed freely over a dark stoneware body and then glazed, producing the characteristic swirling ivory-and-grey surface visible across its entire form. The wide, globular belly tapers to a short, gently flared neck, and the uneven application of glaze lends the piece a beautifully organic, wabi-sabi quality prized in vintage Japanese craft. A fired clay seal, consistent with studio pottery practice of the mid-Showa era, is visible on the base.
