Vintage Japanese Iko Kimono Stand, Early Showa 1927-1945 | SKU: 26M-0993-2
A two-panel folding iko in deep red lacquer -- an elegant vintage Japanese garment stand ready to grace a modern interior.
An iko is a traditional Japanese kimono stand used to hang, air, and display folded or draped garments with care. This handcrafted example features a two-panel folding frame joined at a central hinge, with tall vertical posts and gracefully curved top crossbars designed to drape a kimono or obi without creasing. Multiple horizontal rails run across each panel, offering generous hanging space across the full height of the frame. The lower portion of each panel is fitted with a solid wood board framed in the same deep red lacquered hardwood, each panel accented with a small applied openwork floral roundel -- a refined decorative touch consistent with Japanese craft traditions of the early to mid Showa era. The rich red-brown lacquer finish has developed a warm patina consistent with age, adding to its character as a piece of vintage Japanese vintage furniture.
In a modern home, this iko makes a striking bedroom decor accent -- use it to display a treasured kimono, a silk robe, or statement scarves as living textile art. Its tall, open silhouette suits a Japandi style or wabi-sabi aesthetic bedroom corner just as naturally as a boutique dressing room. It also works beautifully as a living room accent piece draped with a linen throw or as a backdrop for dried botanicals, making it a truly unique housewarming gift or a standout gift for collectors of Japanese vintage pieces and mid-century decorative arts.
