Vintage Japanese Iko-Style Folding Towel Rack, Early Showa 1927-1945 | SKU: 26M-829
A compact freestanding folding towel rack with clean architectural lines, angled upper rails, and a row of small pegs beneath each top bar.
This handcrafted Japanese towel rack from the Early Showa period features a two-panel folding form joined by a central metal hinge. Each panel is built with a gently angled top rail, slender upright supports, a lower stretcher, and a stable sled foot base. Beneath each top rail is a horizontal bar fitted with a row of evenly spaced short pegs, offering convenient hanging points for small cloths or towels. The dark-toned wood shows attractive grain and a warm aged patina that gives the piece a quiet, functional elegance.
In a modern home, this vintage folding rack works beautifully in a bath space for hand towels, in a kitchen for linens, or in an entry or bedroom for lightweight accessories. Its compact footprint and folding construction make it easy to place when needed and store flat when not in use. The simple lines and practical form also make it a fitting accent for Japandi, wabi-sabi, or other understated interiors.
