Vintage Japanese Vase (SKU 25D-332-4)

Warm shiro-yū glaze and simple, sculptural form from late 20th-century Japan

This hand-thrown Japanese vase is finished in a soft white shiro-yū (white glaze) with gentle iron speckling and faint peach firing blush, giving it a quiet, wabi-sabi presence. The rounded shoulder and small, slightly everted mouth recall traditional tokkuri and flower vases used in everyday life, yet the piece has a distinctly modern, Heisei-era sensibility.

Subtle vertical tooling marks and the exposed clay at the foot reveal the potter’s process, while the modest, almost rustic silhouette makes it ideal for a single seasonal branch or a small ikebana arrangement. Displayed on its own or grouped with other 1990s studio ceramics, it brings an understated Japanese aesthetic to contemporary interiors.

A refined yet rustic piece that captures the quiet beauty of late 20th-century Japanese studio pottery.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
