Vintage Japanese Hikidashi multi-drawer cabinet, Late Showa 1966-1989 | SKU: 26J-0754-1
A compact ebonized multi-drawer cabinet blending Hikidashi craftsmanship with mid-century Japanese office utility
A Hikidashi is a small, compact Japanese storage chest traditionally used to organize documents, correspondence, tools, or shop inventory -- prized for its practicality and clean silhouette. This handsome example takes the Hikidashi form into the workplace, featuring multiple shallow pull-out drawers arranged in a graduated column-and-row layout, all finished in a deep ebonized lacquer that gives the piece a commanding, near-monochromatic presence. Each drawer front is fitted with a cast metal label-holder frame and a sturdy curved pull -- a hallmark of Japanese vintage craft that blends functional indexing with satisfying tactile detail. The plain flat top, smooth panel sides, and small raised block feet complete a silhouette that is at once utilitarian and quietly refined, consistent with Late Showa-era Japanese vintage furniture that served both shop counters and home offices alike.
In a modern home, this versatile little cabinet earns its place far beyond the office. Set it on a desk as a home office storage unit for stationery, USB drives, and small supplies -- the label holders make organizing effortless and even stylish. On a bedroom dresser or vanity, it works beautifully as a jewelry organizer or accessory cabinet, keeping rings, chains, and hair accessories neatly sorted in individual drawers. It also shines as a living room accent piece in a Japandi style or wabi-sabi aesthetic interior, displayed on a shelf or side table and used to store remotes, charging cables, or art supplies. Compact enough for any surface, it makes a thoughtful and unique gift for collectors or Japanophiles who appreciate vintage Japanese craft with genuine everyday function.
