Vintage Japanese Shinto Shrine, Showa Era (SKU 25D-314-2)

Weathered blackened-wood kamidana with twin doors and carved crest details

This vintage Japanese Shinto shrine, or kamidana, is crafted in dark-stained softwood with a beautifully aged surface. The compact façade features a gently sloping roof, pierced transoms, and a raised platform base, echoing the architecture of a traditional shrine in miniature form. Its deep, timeworn patina and visible joinery give the piece a quiet, spiritual presence that suits both curated interiors and dedicated altar spaces.

Twin front doors open to reveal the interior niche for enshrining a ofuda or small ritual object, while carved scroll brackets and metal appliqués with tomoe-style roundels add subtle ornament. Retaining honest wear, small losses, and color variation from decades of use, this Showa-era shrine offers an authentic focal point for a Japanese-inspired tokonoma, entryway, or meditation room.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
