Showa-era cha tansu with rich Kamakura-bori carving, glass hikido, and elegant mokko kanagu fittings.
This vintage Japanese cha tansu brings together the warmth of a traditional tearoom and the refinement of Kamakura-bori carving. The cabinet is finished in a deep red-brown lacquer over a hand-chiseled ground, with bold peony and seasonal foliage motifs carved in relief across the lower sliding doors, set against a distinctive honeycomb texture that catches the light beautifully.
Above, staggered shelves and small compartments frame a central display area backed with flecked paper, ideal for chadogu or treasured ceramics. Glass hikido doors, multiple drawers, and a spacious lower storage bay offer practical organization, while the softly contoured mokko kanagu hardware and metal drawer pulls add a refined, period-appropriate accent that completes this striking Showa-era tea chest.
A richly detailed cha tansu that brings authentic Japanese tea-room character and sculptural presence to any interior.
We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
