Vintage Japanese Shiragaki Doragon Tokkuri Bottle (SKU 25D-016-2)

Showa-era ryū (dragon) Sake bottle with powerful sculptural presence

This striking vintage Japanese Sake bottle is modeled as a coiled ryū, the auspicious dragon of East Asian lore. Formed in textured stoneware and finished with a mottled green glaze over the head and chest, the piece captures the creature’s fierce expression and sinuous scales in bold relief, giving it the feel of a small studio sculpture as much as a functional bottle.

The unglazed reddish body evokes rustic Shigaraki-style clay, contrasting beautifully with the glossy green and darkened accents that suggest age and use. Ideal for a tokonoma alcove, tea room, or altar, this Showa-era Sake bottle brings a dynamic, protective energy to any interior while celebrating the enduring place of the dragon in Japanese decorative arts.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
