Vintage Japanese Vase, 1970s, Showa Era (SKU 25D-128)

Showa-era studio pottery with bold drip-glaze in green, ivory and ink-black

This vintage Japanese vase presents a classic rounded silhouette with a short, slightly flared neck, finished in a striking drip-glaze that flows from celadon green and warm ivory into a deep, glossy black. The hand-applied glaze, with its organic runs and subtle crazing to the upper body, evokes the spontaneity prized in mingei (folk craft) ceramics of the mid–Showa period.

Ideal as a single statement piece or as part of a grouped tokonoma or sideboard display, the vase’s earthy clay body and rich, high-contrast palette pair beautifully with both contemporary and traditional interiors. Light surface pitting and kiln marks add to its wabi-sabi charm, underscoring its character as an individual work of studio-made Japanese pottery.

A characterful Showa-era vase that brings authentic Japanese folk-craft warmth to any curated space.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
