Showa-era ryū (dragon) Sake bottle with powerful sculptural presence

This striking vintage Japanese Sake bottle is modeled as a coiled ryū, the auspicious dragon of East Asian lore. Formed in textured stoneware and finished with a mottled green glaze over the head and chest, the piece captures the creature’s fierce expression and sinuous scales in bold relief, giving it the feel of a small studio sculpture as much as a functional bottle.

The unglazed reddish body evokes rustic Shigaraki-style clay, contrasting beautifully with the glossy green and darkened accents that suggest age and use.
