Vintage Japanese Hikidashi Tabletop Chest, Taisho 1912-1926 | SKU: 26J-0435
A compact Japanese tabletop chest with a dark aged finish and practical small-scale storage for everyday use.
This vintage Japanese hikidashi is a small wooden tabletop chest with a simple rectilinear form and four-part front arrangement. The upper section is fitted with two small side-by-side compartments, while below are two larger graduated compartments with curved metal swing pulls. Its dark stained surface shows visible wood grain throughout, with honest wear and patina that give the piece a warm wabi-sabi character. The interior compartments are plain wood and open generously for organizing small household items, stationery, sewing tools, jewelry, or personal keepsakes.
Today this compact chest transitions easily into a modern home. Use it on a desk for clips, pens, cords, and office essentials; on a vanity for cosmetics and jewelry; or on a shelf or entry table for keys, letters, and other daily necessities. Its restrained silhouette, aged finish, and useful multi-compartment layout make it an appealing accent for Japandi, rustic, and minimalist interiors alike.
