Antique Japanese Hikidashi Chest, Taisho period, circa 1912-1926 | SKU: 26J-0402

A compact antique Japanese hikidashi chest with warm patina, three graduated compartments, and decorative brass pulls.

This small Taisho-period hikidashi chest is a practical and appealing example of early 20th-century Japanese utility furniture. Built in a simple upright form, it features three stacked compartments with slightly graduated proportions and matching oval brass bail pulls. The wood shows an attractively worn surface with visible grain, softened edges, and the mellow tone that comes from long use. A ring handle is recessed into the top, reinforcing its compact, portable scale.

Well suited to contemporary interiors, this antique piece works beautifully on a desk, shelf, or tabletop for organizing small personal belongings, stationery, sewing tools, keepsakes, or other household essentials. Its modest size and timeworn character make it easy to incorporate into wabi-sabi, rustic, or Japandi-inspired spaces, whether used as a functional organizer or simply displayed as a sculptural accent.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
