Vintage Japanese Buddhist Wooden Drum, Late Showa 1966-1989 | SKU: 26J-0254
A compact round wooden Buddhist drum with a warm red-brown finish, raised circular top, and small feet that give it a quietly sculptural presence.
This vintage Japanese wooden drum is made in a low cylindrical form with a slightly domed top, concentric turned lines, and three small feet beneath. The body has a rich reddish-brown surface with visible age, scattered finish wear, and a well-handled patina that suits its devotional character. The underside shows a large circular opening into the hollow interior, and the top features a raised central round element that reinforces its drum-like profile. Its simple turned construction and balanced proportions make it an appealing piece for collectors of Japanese religious antiques and traditional wooden craft.
In a modern interior, this compact drum can be displayed on a shelf, console, or study table as a distinctive example of Japanese Buddhist furnishing. Its worn finish, rounded silhouette, and honest hand-worked character pair especially well with wabi-sabi, folk craft, and Japandi-inspired spaces. It also makes a thoughtful gift for collectors interested in Japanese temple objects, devotional art, or vintage wooden forms.
