This vintage Japanese bronze koro is formed with a rounded lower body raised on three short feet and fitted with ring handles at the sides. The surface is decorated throughout with engraved scrolling floral motifs, while an opening at the front of the lower body provides ventilation and adds to its unusual sculptural profile. A smaller rounded upper chamber sits neatly into the wide opening above and is finished with a fitted lid topped by a figural finial. The combined form recalls a traditional tea kettle silhouette while functioning as a decorative incense burner.
