Vintage Japanese Boat Shape Box (SKU 25D-296)

Charming bronze houseboat box with thatched roof and a pair of birds in quiet repose

This finely cast metal box takes the form of a traditional Japanese yakatabune pleasure boat, complete with a gently rocking wave base and detachable oar. A deeply textured thatched roof shelters the cabin, while two small birds rest on the ridge, adding a tender, poetic touch that recalls classic ukiyo‑e river scenes.

The interior of the box is beautifully gilt, creating a warm contrast to the darker exterior patina and enhancing its value as a decorative objet d’art. Ideal as a small keepsake or trinket box, it also displays wonderfully as a vintage Japanese bronze sculpture, bringing a sense of calm waters and slow travel to any shelf or desk.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
