Vintage Japanese Ceramic Mizusashi Water Jar with Lid, Late Showa (1966-1989) | SKU: 26M-108

A compact Japanese ceramic mizusashi with a calm cylindrical form and flowing layered glaze.

This vintage Japanese ceramic vessel is a lidded mizusashi, or water jar, made in a simple upright cylinder with a flat seated lid and arched loop finial. The body shows a warm reddish-brown clay base with broad areas of dark brown and pale gray-blue glaze cascading down the sides in an organic pattern. The lid is similarly glazed and rests neatly inside the mouth on a recessed flange, while the foot ring and portions of the clay body are left unglazed, highlighting the hand-worked character of the piece. Its restrained proportions and practical lidded form suit the quiet utility associated with Japanese tea ceramics.

In a modern interior, this mizusashi works beautifully as a tea utensil for display, a sculptural ceramic accent on a shelf or console, or a distinctive container for small arrangements or tabletop styling. Its earthy clay, fluid glaze transitions, and understated profile make it an easy fit for wabi-sabi, mingei-inspired, and Japandi spaces. A thoughtful piece for collectors of vintage Japanese pottery and tea wares.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage pieces that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
