The globular body is encircled by a bold raised band of taotie (mythological mask) motifs flanked by meander and scroll patterns -- details that would have required considerable skill to produce. Dragon-head loop handles project from either side of the body, and the domed lid is pierced with smoke vents and crowned by a coiling dragon finial resting on a cloud base. Three cabriole-style legs, each terminating in a small beast mask, raise the vessel with elegant stability. A maker's seal is visible on the base within a cartouche, consistent with quality Japanese bronze casting of the postwar period.
