Antique Japanese Tsukue Low Writing Desk, Taisho era, 1912-1926 | SKU: 26M-899
A handsome low Japanese writing desk with a broad plank top, open kneehole, and practical drawer storage.
This antique Japanese tsukue was made for floor-level use, with a wide rectangular top set over an open writing space and a compact drawer bank at one side. The form is straightforward and functional, with a low profile suited to traditional seated use. A single shallow center drawer sits beneath the top, while three stacked drawers on the right provide additional storage. Each drawer is fitted with metal pulls, and the top shows attractive natural grain with visible knots and age-darkened patina across the surface.
In a modern interior, this piece works beautifully as a low desk, meditation or reading table, or a compact coffee table with built-in storage. Its simple silhouette and warm wood tone pair easily with wabi-sabi, rustic, and Japandi-inspired spaces. The drawers are useful for stationery, small tools, remotes, or personal items, making this an antique piece that remains genuinely practical for everyday living.
