Antique Japanese Imari-Style Porcelain Kasane Bako (Stacking Container), Taisho Era 1912-1926 | SKU: 26M-735

A richly hand-painted Imari-style kasane bako in vivid red, cobalt blue, and gold -- a rare and collectible piece of antique Japanese porcelain.

A kasane bako is a traditional Japanese stacking container made of multiple tiered sections that nest together and are capped with a fitted lid. This compact cylindrical example is decorated in the classic Imari palette -- a bold iron-red ground enlivened with gold-painted scrolling foliage, white reserve motifs suggesting stylized clouds or hares in flight, and cobalt blue circular medallions filled with a fine diaper lattice pattern. A blue-and-white architectural band encircles the base, and the domed lid bears a central maker's mark cartouche. The seamless stacking of the individual tiers -- each with its own painted band -- creates a unified, jewel-like cylinder that is typical of the refined handcrafted Japanese ceramics produced during the Taisho era, when artisans blended classical Edo-period Imari motifs with a new attention to decorative elegance.

Today, this antique Japanese porcelain stacking box makes a charming and practical accent in any modern interior. Use it on a vanity or dressing table to organize rings, earrings, and small accessories -- its tiered sections separate items beautifully. On a home office desk it can hold paper clips, pins, or small keepsakes, adding a wabi-sabi aesthetic to everyday organization. It also works as a living room accent piece displayed alongside other Japanese antique ceramics, or as a thoughtful gift for collectors and Japanophiles who appreciate the artistry of Imari-style porcelain.

A beautifully preserved piece of antique Japanese porcelain that brings the timeless elegance of Imari-style decoration to any modern home.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
