Vintage Japanese Small Wooden Stand / Table, Early Showa Period (1927-1945) | SKU: 26M-988

A simple and sturdy vintage Japanese wooden stand, full of warm character and honest Early Showa craftsmanship.

This small Japanese wooden stand dates to the Early Showa period (1927-1945) and reflects the practical, unpretentious design found in everyday Japanese household objects of the era. Built from knotted softwood, likely matsu pine or a similar timber, the piece features a flat rectangular top with gently chamfered corners and four wide splayed slab legs that give it a strong, grounded presence. The nail-fastened construction and simple form speak to rural workshop craftsmanship, where durability and function were valued above ornamentation.

Over time, the wood has developed a rich honey-amber patina, with visible knots, grain variation, and age-softened edges adding to its natural wabi-sabi appeal. Compact yet full of personality, this small stand carries the quiet beauty of a handmade object that has been used, cared for, and naturally aged over many decades.

In a modern home, this vintage Japanese stand can be used in many ways. Place it beside a bed as a small nightstand, by an entryway as a low table for keys or decorative objects, or in a living room as a display stand for ceramics, plants, books, or a small lamp. Its warm wood tone and rustic simplicity pair beautifully with Japandi, wabi-sabi, farmhouse, or minimalist interiors.

A charming vintage Japanese small wooden stand — modest, useful, and beautifully aged, bringing the quiet warmth of Early Showa craftsmanship into any modern interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage pieces that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
