Japanese Tansu Style Wall Mount Medicine Chest

This wall-mounted medicine chest is documented as a Japanese tansu style design made of elm wood with a dark mahogany finish. In plain English, tansu refers to traditional Japanese cabinetry and chest forms; here, that influence is expressed through compact proportions, simple framing, metal pulls, and a combination of enclosed and drawer storage suited to a wall-hung format.

Design and Function

The cabinet is designed for wall mounting and combines a main upper compartment with two lower drawers for organized storage. The front shows a slatted cabinet door above and drawer storage below, giving the piece a practical layout for keeping small household items neatly arranged while maintaining a clean architectural appearance.

The dark mahogany finish emphasizes the rectilinear form and the contrast of the hardware, while the elm wood specification provides the documented material identity for this custom-order example.
