Made to order

This custom-order Japanese style media chest is shown here as a reference example and is not available for purchase. Built in ash wood with a clear finish, the design combines a broad lower cabinet with an upper shelving and sliding-door section sized to frame a television and organize media components.

Overview

With its wide 88-inch span and tall 84-inch overall height, this custom media chest brings together the clean, architectural look of Japanese-inspired cabinetry and the practical needs of a contemporary entertainment wall. The upper section uses sliding panels and open shelving, while the lower section provides enclosed storage, open side compartments, and a pull-out shelf suited to media equipment.

The center opening is designed to accommodate a television, and the cabinetry around it creates a built-in appearance. Slatted panel details and horizontal drawer fronts contribute to the tansu-inspired look, while the clear finish allows the ash wood grain to remain visually prominent.

Design Details

This reference piece features a multi-section layout with upper sliding doors, open display shelves at the sides, and lower storage arranged beneath the main viewing area. The lower center section includes multiple shallow drawers and sliding cabinet doors, a useful configuration for storing media accessories while keeping the front visually orderly.

A pull-out equipment shelf is also visible in the lower section, illustrating how the cabinet can support audio or video components. In Japanese furniture terms, tansu is commonly used to describe cabinetry or chests with a strong emphasis on functional compartmentalized storage; here, that influence is adapted into a large-scale media cabinet format.
