Japanese Tansu Style Shoe Chest
This custom-order reference example shows a Japanese tansu style shoe chest with a compact vertical form, three upper drawers, and sliding lower doors. The pictured piece is kept as a past custom example for inspiration and is not available for purchase.
Documented specifications identify this shoe chest as ash with a clear finish, measuring 24 1/2”W x 14”D x 36”H. In the tansu tradition, the design combines practical storage with a clean architectural presence suited to an entryway or other compact space.
Design Details
The front is arranged with three small drawers across the top and a lower cabinet fitted with two sliding doors. The sliding-door format helps conserve floor space, while the upper drawers provide a place for smaller everyday items. Dark drawer pulls and recessed door pulls add visual contrast against the light wood tone, and the case stands on a shaped base with a broad top surface.
One view shows the lower section open, revealing interior shelving consistent with the shoe chest function named in the documented description. The overall composition reflects Japanese tansu style in a simplified, functional cabinet form.
