This custom-order reference piece is shown for inspiration and is not available for purchase.
This Japanese style mizuya kitchen chest is a tall custom-order example documented at 38”W x 18”D x 74 1/2”H, made of ash wood with an espresso finish. In Japanese furniture terminology, a mizuya is a kitchen chest or cupboard used for organized storage, and this design combines enclosed compartments, drawers, and open display space in a vertically arranged form.
The photographed piece shows a strong tansu-inspired look with clean rectilinear lines, dark hardware, and a practical stacked layout. An open upper shelf creates room for display or quick access, while the upper cabinet section, middle drawers, lower slatted-door storage, and bottom drawer suggest a layout suited to kitchen or household organization.
This reference example has a tall architectural profile with side frame members that emphasize its cabinet form. The upper section includes an open shelf beneath the top and a pair of smaller cabinet doors with a narrow slatted appearance. Below that sits a row of drawers, followed by a larger lower storage area with double doors featuring a horizontal slatted look, and a bottom drawer anchoring the case.
The espresso finish gives the ash wood a deep, even tone that works well with the understated hardware and the Japanese-style cabinet silhouette.
