Originally the upper section of a traditional Japanese Choba Tansu (merchant’s chest), this piece has been skillfully restored and reimagined for modern function. The original sliding wooden doors were replaced with glass panels, enhancing its visual appeal while maintaining its authentic character.

The chest is now mounted on a custom-made black metal stand, raising its height to a comfortable 36.5 inches, making it perfect as a console chest, bar cabinet, or entryway piece. The two lower drawers retain their original iron hardware, while the wooden surfaces showcase a warm natural patina that speaks to its age and history.

The result is a versatile piece that seamlessly blends antique Japanese craftsmanship with a clean, modern silhouette.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.
