Vintage Japanese Bamboo Garden Divider Pole Set with Cord Binding, Mid Showa 1946-1965 | SKU: 26M-718-4

A hand-bound assembly of shaped bamboo poles tied with dark cord -- a quietly sculptural relic of mid-century Japanese craft.

A take (bamboo) divider or support pole set like this was a staple of the traditional Japanese garden and rural household. Harvested mature bamboo culms were carefully selected, sometimes shaped or trained into gentle curves as they grew, then bundled and bound with cord for use as garden dividers, fence rails, trellis supports, or structural framing elements in fencing and screen construction. The undulating, bulging form of the main culm seen here -- tightly wrapped in a diagonal net pattern of dark cord with smaller bamboo pieces lashed to each end -- is characteristic of handcrafted Japanese garden bamboo work, where natural irregularity was embraced rather than corrected. This vintage Japanese craft piece dates to the early postwar Mid Showa period, when resourceful rural households still relied on bamboo as an everyday building and garden material.

Today, this sculptural bamboo assembly makes a striking wabi-sabi aesthetic accent for the modern home. Displayed horizontally across a shelf, mantle, or entry console, its organic curves and aged honey-gold tones bring an unmistakable sense of Japanese naturalism indoors. It works equally well as a living room accent laid across a low surface or propped against a wall in a Japandi-style interior, or used outdoors in a garden or courtyard vignette alongside potted plants and stone. Its raw, elemental beauty makes it a unique gift for Japanophiles, interior stylists, and collectors of handcrafted Japanese objects.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage pieces that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
