Vintage Japanese Four-Panel Bamboo Folding Screen Divider, Early Showa 1927-1945 | SKU: 26M-715-2

A finely detailed four-panel bamboo screen divider with warm natural texture and delicate openwork accents.

This vintage Japanese folding screen divider features four narrow hinged panels with black-lacquered framing and closely set bamboo or reed infill. The top of each panel is finished with a gently shaped crest rail, while a slender bamboo rod runs beneath the crest across the upper section. At the middle of the screen, decorative rectangular inserts are cut with floral and bamboo motifs and backed with light-colored paper, creating a pleasing contrast against the darker wood. Near the base, additional openwork panels with small geometric details add another layer of craftsmanship. The overall effect is airy, textural, and well suited to interiors that favor natural materials and understated decorative design.

In a modern home, this vintage Japanese screen divider can be used to define a corner, soften a wall, or create a sense of separation in a bedroom, living room, or entryway. Its narrow four-panel form makes it especially versatile for smaller spaces, while the warm honey tones of the bamboo pair beautifully with wood, linen, plaster, and other organic finishes. It also makes a striking decorative backdrop for display or photography.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer vintage pieces that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
