Vintage Japanese Yoroi Ningyo Samurai Armor Display Doll, Heisei (1990-2018) | SKU: 26M-861-1

A masterfully crafted yoroi display doll seated on a lacquered gusoku-bitsu chest -- bold crimson odoshi lacing, gilded fittings, and fierce mempo face mask in full regalia.

A yoroi (samurai armor) display doll, known in Japanese as yoroi ningyo or kabuto kazari, is a fully assembled miniature or life-scale decorative representation of a feudal warrior dressed in complete battle armor. Traditionally displayed during Tango no Sekku (Boys' Day, now Children's Day on May 5), these pieces were cherished family heirlooms believed to confer strength, courage, and protection upon sons of the household. This handcrafted Japanese samurai armor display presents a seated warrior in a commanding o-yoroi-inspired style, featuring layered karuta-style body armor bound throughout in vivid aka-odoshi (red lacing) interwoven with gilt scales -- a color scheme historically associated with fearless generals of the Sengoku period. The kabuto (helmet) is crowned with an elaborate gold figurine and swept maedate crest flanked by dramatic gilt fukigaeshi wings, while the lacquered mempo (face mask) is fitted with a naturalistic white moustache and dramatic scarlet sage lacing at the throat. Every component -- from the leopard-print patterned fabric inserts to the ornate tsurubashiri panels -- reflects the meticulous hand-assembly that defines premium vintage Japanese craft.

In the modern home, this yoroi ningyo makes an unforgettable living room accent or entryway statement piece that anchors any collection of Japanese vintage pieces or Asian decorative art. Displayed on its own lacquered black gusoku-bitsu storage chest with embossed brass corner fittings, the ensemble is already presentation-ready -- simply place it on a sideboard, console table, or dedicated display shelf. It works beautifully within a Japandi style interior, a collector's study, or a bold maximalist living room, and makes an extraordinary gift for collectors, Japanophiles, or anyone who appreciates the artistry of samurai culture. The striking red-and-gold palette ensures it holds its own as both a collector's trophy and a dramatic focal point in any room.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.
