This exceptionally wide example -- spanning nearly five feet across -- follows the classic mise-dansu form, with a top row of shallow pull-out drawers running the full width, a tall column of graduated drawers along one side, a generous run of lower drawers along the base, and a large central section enclosed by a pair of sliding panel doors. The doors are fitted with elegantly carved diamond-and-bar finger-pull cutouts -- a refined decorative touch consistent with Taisho-era craftsmanship. The warm honey-toned wood, with its visible knots and straight grain, is consistent with a Japanese softwood, possibly hinoki (cypress) or a related domestic species, finished to a smooth, clean surface.
