This is an antique Japanese 2 section Kimono Chest called Nihon Matsu Kasane Tansu from late Meiji period (1890's - 1910's). It originated from the town of Nihon Matsu in the northern region of Japan. The decorative drawer plates amazning details and chrysanthemum knobs complete the design.
It was made fromPaulownia (Kirinoki) wood and Cryptomeria (Suginoki).
This style of tansu was made famous by its large size and very spacious drawer compartments.
