Antique Japanese Ko Tansu Small Chest With Kakute Style Pull Drawers And Small Katabiraki Door (SKU 25D-G025)

Compact Taishō-era ko tansu with kakute-style pulls, katabiraki door, and original hand-forged iron fittings.

This charming antique Japanese ko tansu (small chest) showcases the warm grain of its solid wood carcass, framed by a full set of forged iron corner plates and round lock escutcheons. The front is arranged with multiple graduated drawers fitted with classic kakute-style pulls, giving the piece both a balanced rhythm and excellent everyday usability.

To the right side, a small katabiraki door opens to reveal two inner drawers with ring pulls, a traditional storage solution for valuables and personal effects. Rich patina to the iron hardware, subtle wear to the wood, and side carry handles all speak to its Taishō-period origins, while the low, compact format makes it ideal as an accent chest, bedside piece, or entryway tansu in a modern interior.

As part of our mission to preserve and share Japanese craftsmanship, we offer antiques that were made not just to be admired, but to be used. These pieces were crafted for everyday life, and we honor their purpose by ensuring they can continue to be enjoyed and lived with today.

We use professional studio lighting to highlight the natural character of the wood. As a result, the tone may appear slightly warmer than under natural daylight.

All vintage and antique items are sold as-is. Each piece may exhibit signs of age, including scratches, wear, or minor imperfections. These are not considered defects but natural evidence of the item’s authenticity and age.
